Specialty medications are prescribed to treat complex and chronic (long-term) conditions. Examples include multiple sclerosis, hepatitis C, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. Many of these medications are manufactured using highly specialized techniques. Because of their complex makeup, specialty medications are not usually available at a local retail pharmacy.
